Is Subway thee Way?

Sorry I have not updated in a while, the Christmas season was a busy one. Today I'm checking out the "Healthiest" of all fast food restaurants, Subway. I put healthiest in quotations because it is not incredibly low in calories, but the items that you are getting are far better for you: lean meats, veggies, etc. Once again these are all the items with 300 calories or less.

Slowin Down the Metabolism Train

Today I’m just gonna hit on some metabolism saboteurs.

The main ones that we all ingest most days are the refined carbs, white bread, white rice, white potatoes, and sugar! They make you sluggish and don’t do what good carbs do for you. These items are the reason low carb diets and no carb diets came about, (low carb maybe as a diet, no carb = no way, your brain runs on carbs).

Another one we encounter is saturated fats. These are found in thinks like fatty red meats, whole dairy products and things like butter.
(Eat more omega 3’s and monounsaturated fats, if you want examples let me know).

This one is really mostly common sense, so I’m not going to spend much time on it, but here are a few key things.

1. Don’t eat a lot of refined carbs
2. Don’t eat items loaded with saturated fats
3. DO eat complex carbs and healthy fats
4. Use common sense
5. You know what’s healthy, you just need to listen

Hittin on Metabolism

I am currently getting ready to start dieting and exercising again. So I decided to give myself an edge and check out what foods would help give my metabolism a boost. So I figured I would share this info with you too.

I will start out by saying give up the pop and save your calories because I have two beverages that will help you give your body a needed boost. They are ice cold water and tea (especially green tea), I know most people have heard of these but they needed to be said again. The reason ice water works is because your body has to work harder to bring that water up to body temp thus using more calories.

Another thing that will boost your metabolism is eating spicy foods. This works for me because I love spicy food.

Foods that are high in fiber are amazing for you. Try fruit, veggies, and whole grains. They help to give your body a metabolic boost and are great for you in general with their anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals.

Don’t skip breakfast!!!! This is simply because overnight your metabolism slows and you need food to wake it back up.

Don’t starve yourself because if your body feels like it is not getting enough calories it will go into starvation mode and you will slow down your metabolism. On the flip side, don’t over indulge yourself because your metabolism can only work so fast.

Eat smaller more frequent meals. In doing this your metabolism always has something to process and never has the chance to slow down. Once again though, pigging out all day is not going to do you any good either, find the moderation point.

I’ve also seen around that you need to get enough B-vitamins, so maybe a multi-vitamin could help you out.

And the number one way to give your metabolism a kick in the pants is to……. EXERCISE!!!!! Yes, exercising is the best way known to boost your metabolism, whether it is aerobics, running, weight training, or something else like yoga. Try it and feel the changes.

I’m sure I will have more about this topic later, but I think this is a good start.
